New website for IT services company

I guess if you’re involved in any shape or form with computers then it’s kind of expected that your web presence will be as sharp as a tack…

What we’ve found however is that sometimes those that are most involved in computers are so busy solving everyone else’s computer-related problems that they haven’t the time to focus on sorting out their own web presence.  I can speak from personal experience on that one!

That was also the case with Glasgow IT support company Upsource IT.  Business owner David Scott knew his web presence needed revamped but just couldn’t find the time.  As a result,  we got involved and within a fortnight had delivered a great new website that he can now proudly direct existing and potential clients to.

The website is fully updateable and includes client case studies and testimonials.  David will also be using the blogging engine to further promote his services and give away useful IT-related advice and tips.

Helping a client sell more stuff…

We’re working pretty closely with our clients from over the river, Powdertec.  They specialise in alloy wheel repairs and sales.  We built them a new website at the tail end of last year and it’s really been helping drive their business forward.

Since then we’ve been helping them use their website to it’s full potential by integrating it more with their strong Facebook presence and adding content to aid the sales process.

powdertecFrom talking to the client, I discovered that there were huge supply issues for winter tyres last year because his customers left it too late to order them.

This year, Powdertec will be ready.

We are currently focussing content on the supply of winter tyres to make sure the website has prominent Google rankings come winter time and by adding a ‘winter tyre quick quote form’ and some calls to action on the site we are encouraging would-be customers to make enquiries and get their orders in early.

Come to think of it, last winter was a nightmare.  I might even get a set of winter tyres myself.

Helping a rock band promote a new album

70s retro rockers The Answer have been clients of ours for some time now and have gone from strength-to-strength over the past couple of years with an obvious highlight being supporting AC/DC on their Black Ice world tour last year.

After launching their new website last month, the focus now turns toward promoting the release of their forthcoming album, Revival, which is due for release on the 3rd October.

We completely rebuilt the homepage to make the focal point the excellent series of ‘making of the album’ videos that the band put together.  As Rob Reiner once said, “documentary…more like Rockumentary”.

Is Google+ Too Private?

Could the amount of privacy that social network Google+ offers be a bonus for rioters but a nightmare for the authorities?

I’ve been taking a good look at the Google+ User Content and Conduct Policy and whilst it’s fairly explicit in stating that you must not “use our products to engage in illegal activities or promote dangerous and illegal acts” the Google+ privacy policy mentions nothing of the search giant policing, viewing or censoring the content that gets added (not that you’d expect to see that of course).

What Google+ does instead is puts the onus on the users themselves to self-police and report abuse, spam, hate speech, copyright or whatever.

A bit about Circles

For those that haven’t got on to Google+ to give it a spin yet, here’s a quick primer:

Facebook still chanks Google+ on many social media aspects but for me, the greatest advance (and what makes it great) is the ability to create ‘Circles’ and assign the members of your network to specific circles and then choose which of these circles get specific posts, thus reducing the potential inbox banality to an acceptable, tolerable and almost enjoyable level.

Rioting Chums

using google plus to organise a riotSo, bearing in mind you can create a private “circle” of likeminded people and and then broadcast solely and privately to them with absolutely no restriction, does this make Google+ the perfect social media choice for rioters?

Whilst I’d be very surprised to see Google develop a Google+ app for Blackberry I’d give it no more than a couple of months before one appears from somewhere.  Now that’ll be interesting.

London 2012

Next summer,  London is ravaged by rioters mobilised by a private “Rioting Chums” circle on Google+.

Imagine the shitstorm that one would cause.  Google’s motto is “Do no evil” but there will be hundreds of uses for Google+ that don’t stick to this.

What should Google do?

Using Google Adwords to cash in on mis-spelling.

Our microwave oven has just gone on the blink and with bottles to sterilise, baby food to heat and porridge for breakfast every morning, it’s a bit of an essential item round our house.

Trying to find out if the local branch of Currys is open this evening threw up this interesting bit of Adwords skullduggery from one of their rivals…

google adwords used to capitalise on brandname mis-spelling.
I wonder how much revenue Currys lose to Comet because of a mis-type?  Great example here of how the customer intent (ie, to buy a microwave oven quickly) will take precedence over which retailer the consumer would choose to purchase from.

Yet, it’d be really easy for Currys to fortify their position in this instance.  So why haven’t they? Simple answer…they haven’t thought of it.  If they had, they’d be chucking some Adwords spend in this general direction and Comet wouldn’t get a sniff.

Comet-1   Currys-0.

Remember, you only pay for what gets clicked on with Google Adwords.

We set up Google Adwords campaigns all of the time for our clients and we do think of these things.

If you are starting out with Adwords we can even apply a £60 voucher to your account to let you dip your toe in the water.  Get in touch if you’d like to find out more.
