Google’s starter guide to SEO

Google have just published the latest version of their SEO starter guide and a very useful read it is too.

In my experience, where search engine optimisation is concerned, clients often think there’s a magic bullet that can be fired that will lead to their site automatically leaping their competitors on Google.

The reality is that SEO should be approached from several angles; from positive link building with other genuinely related (and relevant) websites and partners to the creation of well-constructed, concise, relevant and useful content.  It’s also extremely helpful to have a well designed website that is easy to update and tweak.  What is important to remember is that no SEO company has Google by the nadgers!

Avoid the ones that say they do at all costs!

Clients should already have a clear idea of who their target customers are and therefore be able to get inside their heads to work out what they’ll type into Google to find them.  That’s an important part of the process but even before all of this, the Google guide is great for spelling this out and shows that there’s a heck of a lot clients themselves can do themselves.
